April 12th – Su e Zo per i ponti (Up and Down the bridges) – a little marathon across Venice.

April 25th – St Mark – Patron Saint of Venice – Festa del Bocolo (rosebud) – According to Venetian tradition men buy a rosebud for their loved ones. In Italy Liberation Day (Festa della Liberazione)

May 9th – November 22th – The 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia โ€“ In Minor Keys by Koyo Kouoh โ€“ (preview May 6th, 7th, 8th) at the Giardini and the Arsenale venues, and in various locations around Venice.

May 17th – Festa della Sensa (Ascension Day) – Venice marriage to the sea.

May 24th – Vogalonga – A rowing regatta in the City of Venice against the wave action created by motor boats – round trip from Venice to Burano!

September 2nd – 12th – Venice Film Festival.

September 6th – Regata storica – Historical Regatta.

October 26th – Venice Marathon – running from Stra (riviera del Brenta) to Venice (via Garibaldi).

November 21st – Madonna della Salute (Our Virgin Mary of Health) – celebrating the end of the plague in Venice in 1631.

A Venetian Calendar – 2025

14 February – 4 March

Carnival of Venice, this year dedicated to the celebration of Casanova’s 300th birth anniversary, promises to be a grand and exhilarating event, filled with vibrant masks and elaborate costumes that reflect the rich history of the city. As visitors flock to the enchanting canals and historic piazzas, they will immerse themselves in a world of intrigue and romance, inspired by the legendary figure known for his escapades and charm. The festivities will include a series of events, such as theatrical performances, masked balls, and art exhibitions, all paying homage to Casanova’s intriguing life, which combined allure with mystery. With the air filled with music and the streets alive with excitement, this year’s Carnival is set to not only celebrate a milestone but also to captivate the hearts of all who attend.

Next exhibition to be seen in Venice at Palazzo Ducale (please see link above) will be dedicated to Vittore Carpaccio (1465-1526) from March 18th until June 18th.

La prossima mostra da vedere a Venezia a Palazzo Ducale (si veda link sopra) sarร  dedicata a Vittore Carpaccio (1465-1526) dal 18 Marzo al 18 Giugno, 2023.

Curated by the great art historian Peter Humfrey, Carpaccio’s new exhibition will be held in Washington (USA) and in Venice, with a selection of the artist’s best works.

Curata dal grande storico dell’arte Peter Humfrey, la nuova mostra su Carpaccio, si terrร  sia a Washington che a Venezia con una selezione dei migliori lavori dell’artista.

Considerato una sorta di Ulisse della Venezia del XV secolo, l’artista venne riscoperto nell’Ottocento da John Ruskin che gli dedicรฒ pagine raffinatissime.

Considered a sort of Ulysses of the XVth Venice, the artist was re-discovered in the 19th century by John Ruskin who wrote sublime lines on his art.
